SHOW IN SHOPRobin Walden AKA Deepcutt got into the music production game in his early teens, and soon hooked-up with south coast production wizard and jack of all trades, Tom Caruana (Tea Sea Recordings, Son Records, Breakin Bread), with whom he laid down his first breaks ‘n’ loops-based tracks in the studio.
Discovering the exciting new sounds of drum & bass in the early 90s, and in particular inspired by the tough, lean rhythms of the signature Bristol sound pioneered by the likes of Roni Size, DJ Krust and Full Cycle/Dope Dragon/V Recordings releases, along with the heavyweight output of Goldie’s London-based label, Metalheadz, he started getting deep into drum & bass production, and promoting d&b nights around Brighton.
Hooking up along the way with some high-minded cultural types, Robin co-wrote (alongside singer-songwriter Sadie Jemmett) and produced the score for a musical theatrical version of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Good Woman of Setzuan’, staged in Paris in 2003. The score was later released as an album in its own right. Robin’s next commercial release was a heavyweight drum & bass remix of ‘Stan Bac’ by esteemed UK femcee
C-Mone on Son Records (under the alias ‘Decipher’). Since then he won a recent ‘mp3ness’ unsigned talent competition organised by UK national radio station, 1xtra, with his entry championed by drum & bass scene leaders, L-Double and DJ Flight.
Robin has also shown himself adept at moving-picture scoring and recently composed the soundtrack for a TV advertising campaign for the Islamic Relief charitable organisation.
Robin is co-founder of Scion Records.
