As the days grow ever shorter, darker and colder, we're very happy to bring you another collection of finely-wrought sonic wonders. And we can't help but feel that the tracks on offer here chime perfectly with the season's chill..
This time we're talking about a dream collab between label co-founder Deepcutt and Brighton resident, Blake. As demonstrated on their respective debut EP's on Scion, each has a keen ear for fine detail and a deep appreciation for those ambient touches that make for truly immersive listening. And working together has we think proven very fruitful.
Starting with uptempo opener, 'Notek', we're stepping straight into a cold, dark place. Deep space sonics, polished up to a gleaming chrome-plated finish, but with a little bit of grit, tension and some subtly rave-y keys and breakdowns thrown in to rough it up.
Title track 'Peace of Mind' we reckon couldn't be less likely to induce anything approaching ease: like a slow-burn 21st century audio take on the shower scene in 'Psycho', this track drips with understated menace for every classy second of its running time. A virtuoso exercise in restrained threat.
Meanwhile, rounding off our offering with 'Install', we take things off in a slightly less sinister direction, but still with plenty of rich, layered atmospherics as D & B roll out the amens.. And roll 'em out they surely do, with some fine edits and finessed drum programming to whisk you a good decade back to vintage era Source Direct.
